Born Free USA united with Animal Protection Institute is an almagam of the Animal Protection Institute, established in 1968, and Born Free USA, established in 2002 as the U.S. arm of the UK-based Born Free Foundation, which evolved in 1991 from Zoo Check, established in 1984.
Born Free USA united with Animal Protection Institute is a national, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to ending animal abuse. Through legislation, litigation, advocacy, media, and public education, Born Free USA united with API works to protect animals from cruelty and exploitation. Born Free USA united with API's primary areas of concern include the private possession of exotic "pets"; zoos and circuses; trapping; and the international wildlife trade.
